Although the games and the people who play them can be exciting and compelling in their own right, the best sports stories are often more difficult to pinpoint. Perhaps they manifest themselves as a trend that doesn't show up in the box scores or as an issue that affects multiple teams in various sports. Spotting these trends and issues and investigating them in order to enlighten others is what separates the extraordinary sports reporter from the ordinary one.
